Loaf turns to producing face masks

Face masks for care workers are being made by the hundred at a cafe in Wells.

Now that cafes around the country have been told to close, Lois Williams has turned Loaf.bakehouse, the cafe in Market Street she runs with husband Danny, into a hub for producing face masks.
She sews together the cotton masks, complete with elasticated ties, with the help of two people who were working in the cafe and three customers.
“The Bluebird Care agency couldn’t get hold of face masks so asked if I could sew them some,” said Lois, whose name had been passed on to them.
“There’s a huge shortage. These are not proper NHS surgical face masks, they are just like a barrier to make carers feel more confident as well as the people they’re looking after.”
